Inspired by a television report on indoor aquaculture with shrimp, Stefan Glammeier and René John had the vision in 2012 to provide people with pure, sustainable, and fresh products from aquaculture. Driven by the future necessity of regionalism, short distances, and the goal of utilizing our available resources to the best possible extent, they decided to choose fish as a food source. Fish consume the least amount of feed during growth compared to all other organisms and simultaneously produce the least amount of waste. To provide humanity with high-quality animal proteins, only fish or insects are suitable.

The company relies on closed-loop technology to reduce environmental pollution and ensure sustainable production. Through their own regenerative solar and wind installations, they achieve a carbon-neutral balance. In 2015, they acquired an existing closed-loop system for zander and established their own independent expert team. After facing challenges with the existing system, they opted for a complete rebuild, which now serves as a hatchery for stocking fish. The experiences and knowledge gained in breeding zander independently of the seasons have enabled the company to plan and build the most advanced fish stocking facility in Europe.

In the year 2020/2021, the first lane of the zander farming facility in Porta Westfalica was put into operation, with the aim of achieving an annual production of 100 tons of fish per year. Since then, the company has been producing approximately 6-10 tons of edible fish per month in addition to larger stocking fish. The completed hall has space for 2 lanes, with the potential to operate a total of 6 lanes, which could potentially yield 600 tons of fish. The company also aims to pursue complementary projects that form synergies with aquaculture, such as aquaponics. It is already the largest zander aquaculture facility in Germany.
